The Ridgeline Anthem is Brews & Bonds

In the heart of Bremerton, Washington, there's a place where business and community blend seamlessly. Ridgeline Brewing, with its humble beginnings and big dreams, stands as a testament to the power of passion and the spirit of collaboration. I got to sit down with Jesse Wilson, one of the three local owners. He is giving major Seth Rogan vibes and we’re here for it! Make sure you say “Hi!” if you see him there during your next visit.

With a warm smile and a fresh pint in hand, Jesse welcomes everyone to Ridgeline Brewing.

Walking into Ridgeline Brewing feels like stepping into a safe haven. Families gather, children are welcome (though not at the bar 😉), and the music is never too loud—nobody likes to shout when they're trying to chat with friends. Jesse also envisions this space as a haven for work-from-home folks seeking a change of scenery. Whether it’s vinyl records spinning on Tuesdays or lively trivia nights on Wednesdays, every event is designed to make you feel like you belong. Owners Jesse, Dylan, and Josh do their best to ensure that every visit is memorable, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels at home. With the brewery connected to the taproom and visible from parts of the space, watching the brewing process feels like witnessing a delicious science experiment.

The Heart of the Brewery:
The Taproom

The heart of Ridgeline Brewing is its large Taproom. This area is perfect for meetings, events, get-togethers, or even those seeking a quiet corner to work. I especially loved the garage door that opens to a spacious outdoor patio. Out there, tables are set for communal enjoyment, with classic yard games like corn hole add to the fun. This blend of indoor comfort and outdoor freedom makes Ridgeline Brewing a versatile venue for any occasion.

Jesse explains, “We truly try to embrace the ‘public house’ aspect of small craft breweries. We want to be a place where folks feel comfortable gathering and sharing in our community-focused vision.”

Brewing with Sustainability. BYOG

Ridgeline Brewing is rocking sustainability. They minimize water waste, trade spent grain with a local pig farmer “Farmer Phil,” and embrace eco-friendly practices like using refillable growlers and recycled construction materials. BYOG (bring your own growler) and they’ll be sure to fill it for ya. Their brewing process reflects a deep respect for the environment and a commitment to responsible practices. Thank you Ridgeline crew. 🌏

Inspiration and Creative Process

I asked Jesse was inspires the flavors, he told me his inspiration at Ridgeline Brewing comes from all over.

It's the name of a Bob Dylan song; Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat that gave life to a Pilsner named "Leopard Skin Pilsner."
It’s the partnerships with local businesses like Cafe Corvo Coffee, adding unique flavors to their brews.
It’s the connection with upcoming Slippery Pig that will continue to transform the Charleston Business District.

The creative process here is a living, breathing thing, fueled by the supportive brewing community and the heartfelt suggestions of loyal customers. Jesse describes his near endless creative thoughts like popcorn kernels popping all around… “Sometimes you miss a good one, but you grab what you can when it’s within your reach.”

Community Connection

Ridgeline Brewing’s commitment to community goes beyond brewing. Monthly art exhibitions feature local artists, and their participation in Bremerton’s First Friday Art Walk showcases their dedication to local culture. Their community support is a core foundational vale and what Jesse believes sets them apart from other great breweries, exemplified by the story of a regular customer battling cancer. A fundraiser held in her honor united the community, raising substantial support and proving that Ridgeline Brewing is more than just a business; it’s the heart of Bremerton.

"Every month we feature a different artist. Every month it's somebody local." Jesse describes the local art vibes on the walls.

Overcoming Challenges

Starting a brewery comes with challenges, from navigating long permit processes to dealing with the economic uncertainties of a pandemic. Ridgeline Brewing has faced these obstacles with determination, turning each challenge into a learning opportunity. Their story is one of triumphs, not just in overcoming these hurdles, but in creating a space that fosters connection and joy.

Advice for Aspiring Brewers

For those dreaming of their own brewing journey, the advice from Ridgeline Brewing is invaluable. They emphasize the importance of strong funding, starting permits early, and balancing DIY efforts with professional help. But beyond the practical advice, there’s a reminder to savor the joy of creation. It’s easy to get lost in the details, but remembering the “why” behind the passion can help avoid burnout.

His advice for aspiring brewers: secure strong funding, “start permits early, and never forget the joy of creation."

Looking Ahead

Ridgeline Brewing envisions a future that stretches beyond its current space. They dream of expanding the outdoor area and adding a cozy garage door with windows for those chilly winter months. These ambitions, though not essential, reflect a desire to create a haven for all seasons.

Looking ahead, Ridgeline Brewing has exciting plans. From contracting signature brews to canning and expanding their presence in strategic taprooms, their vision is always growing. Collaborations with local businesses and dreams of a brewery district in Bremerton whisper of a future rich with possibilities and community bonds.

Jesse's heart holds the memory of his dear friends, Steve and Mina Schultz, who were not only exceptional brewers but also cherished friends. A tribute to their legacy sits in the taproom window, honoring the craft and camaraderie they brought to the brewing community.
